With nearly 100 active members, most of whom learnt to row at university, New College Boat Club is the biggest and friendliest college on the Isis, submitting 10 crews to Summer Eights in 2026.
New College Boat Club is the largest sports club in College, with nearly 100 active members. It currently holds its highest place in decades at Summer Eights, Oxford's intercollegiate regatta. Last year the club entered ten crews across a wide range of abilities.
The club is open to all members of New College. Novices, experienced rowers and coxswains are equally welcome, and the aim is to give everyone the chance to train and race.

Bumps in Summer Eights 2026
No experience is needed to join. Most members pick up an oar or a cox box for the very first time in Michaelmas, and the club takes it from there.
Michaelmas
Most members start as novices, learning to row from scratch and racing at the Michaelmas Novice Regatta in their first term.
Hilary & Trinity
Members then progress to bumps racing, submitting numerous crews into Oxford's famous Torpids and Summer Eights regattas in Hilary and Trinity terms respectively.
Beyond New College
New College rowers have the opportunity to develop to a high standard, with several recent novice arrivals going on to row for the University.
New College has been sending crews out on the Isis since the 19th century, and the club colours have an Olympic history behind them.
Foundation
NCBC goes back to the 19th century, making it one of the oldest boat clubs in Oxford and, as such, in the world.
Henley
The boat club has often competed at Henley Royal Regatta, winning in several events.
1912 Olympics
New College is the only Oxford or Cambridge college ever to have sent a team to the Olympics. They won a silver medal.
Club colours
The club's purple and gold colours come from the Stockholm Games, given by the King of Sweden in recognition of the crew's sportsmanship.
